  # AWS IAM User Setup for Zero-X EKS Read-Only Access

  Follow the steps below to create an AWS IAM user with read-only access for the Zero-X EKS integration.

  ## Step 1 — Create the IAM User (AWS Console)

  1. Sign in to the **AWS Console** as an account administrator.
  2. Navigate to **IAM → Users → Create user**.
  3. Enter a user name, for example:
     `zero-x-eks-readonly`
  4. Do **not** select **Provide user access to the AWS Management Console**. This user only requires programmatic access.
  5. Click **Next**.

  ## Step 2 — Attach the EKS MCP Read-Only Policy (AWS Console)

  6. On the **Set permissions** screen, select **Attach policies directly**.
  7. In the policy search box, enter:
     `AmazonEKSMCPReadOnlyAccess`
  8. Select the checkbox next to the policy.
  9. Click **Next**.
  10. Review the permission summary and click **Create user**.

  > **Note:** This policy provides read-only observability and troubleshooting access to the EKS MCP service. It does not provide permission to modify EKS clusters, node groups, or workloads.

  ## Step 3 — Generate the Access Key and Secret Key (AWS Console)

  11. From the **IAM Users** list, select the newly created user:
      `zero-x-eks-readonly`

  12. Open the **Security credentials** tab.

  13. Scroll to the **Access keys** section and click **Create access key**.

  14. Select **Third-party service** as the use case.

  15. Check the confirmation box and click **Next**.

  16. Optionally add a description tag, for example:
      `Zero-X EKS integration`

  17. Click **Create access key**.

  18. On the resulting screen, copy the following values:
      * **Access Key ID**
      * **Secret Access Key**

  19. Alternatively, click **Download .csv file** to save the credentials.

  > ⚠️ **Important:** The Secret Access Key is displayed only once. Copy or download both credentials immediately and store them securely in a password manager or secrets vault before closing the window.

  ## Security Recommendation

  Never commit AWS access keys or secret keys to source code, Git repositories, configuration files, or public documentation. Store credentials securely using an approved secrets-management solution.
